World Building

My main inspiration for this world was Treasure Planet and a fairytale astetic. This universe is filled with many planets, characters and stories but the main focus is on the ones traveling through the space.
In this universe whoever can breath even outside of the atmosphere of planets. Everyone uses any kind of boat that you'd find on the sea or deferent bodies of water. For your ship to be able to travel beyond the sky you need it to be covered with a special (possibly magical) paint like substence. Thanks to that your boat now can float in the air and later in the space.
When it comes to the travelers, there's few design changes they can go through. If they are from a planet that isnt in any way connected to space/stars design wise their design changes and gets those features and their color pallete gets colder the more they're deep in space. Many characters can also be born to space or cosmic objects that arent planets. Their designs are already space like + usually represents some cosmical object.
Outside planets there's many places you can visit out here. For example "gas" stations that are mainly for travelers to rest and get food, shops or other services. Most of these complexes are on smaller asteroids and such objects.

NAME: Sirius

Sirius's design was inspired by constellations, specifically by the Canis Major Constellation. He's named by one of its stars.

Sirius is a shy dog. He might find adventures and trips interesting but he's happiest when things are calm and confortable. But that doesn't mean he doesn't like attention. He loves playing and cuddling with his close ones.


NAME: Unkown

In my notes this character is simply called dad. He's supposed to be a living robot thing. I used Hubble space telescope as inspiration for his design. I wanted the whole family to be inspired by space telescopes.

This charcter is an overworked father of a small family. He's stern kind of guy as well as a perfectionist. Never wanted a dog but wanted to make his child and wife happy. Unlike most fathers he never got liking to Sirius. After his child lost interest in the pupper he was more than happy to get rid of him.

NAME: Unkown

In my notes this character is simply called mom. She's supposed to be a living robot thing. I used Kepler space telescope as inspiration for her design. I wanted the whole family to be inspired by space telescopes.

Mom mentally never left highschool. Her favourite passtime is talking to her girl friend and social media. Her dream was to be famous make up artist but she slowly gave up on that. Worry not though her new venture is family vloging. Because of that she decided to be stay at home mom and focus on her tiktok profile. She made her husband get a dog for their kid cuz she new topic for her posts. Turns out Sirius is camera shy and way more work than she can handle.


NAME: Unkown

In my notes this character is simply called kid. She's supposed to be a living robot thing. I used Keck space telescope as inspiration for her design. I wanted the whole family to be inspired by space telescopes.

She's an ipad kid. Her mom is trying but has no idea how to keep a child occupied so she just gives her her phone and calls it a day. The kid is quiet and that's what matters, doesnt it? Kid loves animals. All of the animals. She loves Sirius very much but sadly he isn't as flashy as her screen.


NAME: Mitch the traveler

I used my old persona as an inspiration for this character. Later I had to change some aspects to be more animation friendly. Noone knows what kind of spieces they are.

Mitch hasn't always been a traveler. Most of his life they had spent on their mother planet wasting away in a dead end job. After too many menalcholic days they decided to build their own ship and leave it all behind.


NAME: Biela

Biela was inspired by comets and with her being named after one as well.

Once a stray now an adnevturer! She was found by Mitch when she invited their ship while storing up on supplies. Mitch got liking to her right away and decided to let her stay. Now they're discovering space together.


NAME: Diggory Meow Aymon

A citizen of a village on planet Felislite.

Diggory is aspiring entrepreneur. He comes up with a new bussness idea every week. So far he wasn't able to get far. Maybe one day.
He's long time friend of Primrose Ravenpaw.


NAME: Leslie von Paw

A citizen of a village on planet Felislite.

Leslie is a catified version of my friend's character of the same name.


NAME: Knite Gigi

A citizen of a village on planet Felislite.

Gigi is inspired by one of my cats.


NAME: Royal guard Bibi

A citizen of a village on planet Felislite.

Bibi is inspired by one of my cats.


NAME: Primrose Ravenpaw

A citizen of a village on planet Felislite.

Her biggest pasion is making pottery. She's not very famous but she sure is popular in her village. Everyone enjoys her creations. Even with all that pottery is just her hobby. Her main income comes from being a bartender in a local pub.
He's long time friend of Diggory Meow Aymon.


NAME: Catvier an Catlie

A citizen of a village on planet Felislite.

Catvier is a catified version of a character called Xavier that belongs to my friend.

A "citizen" of planet Felislite.

Melia is misunderstood and just trying survive. She doesn't enjoy hunting for her food the traditional way and opts for stealing from the cat villigers.

A citizen of Doggy planet.

Their design was inspired by half cloudy sky and fluffy dogs. Except they're small fluffy dog and most of my inspiration was big fluffy dogs.

Cut content

As any other project this one has a cut content or changes done to its initial vision as well. Here I wanna share those cuz hell I think its hella cool to think what could be and all this stuff.
Most of the cut content comes from the fact that this project was a school assigment with specifications. The main one was the lenght for this project which was at most 3 minutes and I was very ambitious for my plot and all the scenes I wanted. This is mostly because of the fact that I made the first concepts and plot lines a year before actually getting this assigment.

Speaking of plots, there was a possibility this movie being about something very different, thought still happening in the same universe/world.
In this story Mitch would be the main character. It would be almost the whole runtime situated on Mitch's birth planet. We'd follow their stale and repetetive life as they try to find their passion and follow their dreams to become a space traveler.
I do not want to spoil more because I am still planing on making this plot into a short movie :3.
Anyway in the end I chose not to go with this plot for this specific project as I wanted to do something more silly and I didn't have it thought out that well as I did with Sirius. Which now I slightly regret because Sirius was too big of an idea for a 3 minutes long movie.

Now coming back to Sirius. Before I even with the storyboard I had to go through all the ideas for scenes and choose which ones are good and not pointless.
The scenes I wanna talk about incluted Mitch and Biela trying to gain broken Sirius' trust and cheer him up. This involved getting him good food, watching breathtalking space scenery and of course pets and cuddles. One specific scene I had on my mind when it came to the food was with Mitch stealing a good looking raw steak and running away from angered cat citizens. This idea/scene was the original chase scene that got replaced by the dragon chase plot. The great steak stealing happened because of Mitch not having any money because they're pure adventurer that doesn't work in any other way outside of at most doing just little quests for others. I wanted it to be this crazy action scenes but ugh lack of skill and it most likely not being able to fit into the time limit it was dropped. Another reason was my teacher's advice regarding the fact that 3 minutes isn't enough to properly grow and show a gray character and it would only confuse the audience.

Even with the scene purge I had to rework the storyboard. Tho in these there isn't that many that got cut out.

The first one is an artifact of the great steal stealing plot line. Was cut out due going nowhere and not being needed.

These were scrapped due to being too long and i wouldn't be able to fit into the 3 minutes. Also its rather strange way of chasing a dragon. (not that the one in the movie is jk)

This was solely just a zoom in into the planet to better establish that it's a planet filled by dogs, you could even say it is a doggy paradise. Unfortunatly it got cut due to time constraints, I already missed the first deadlines :(.

There are only two unfinished scenes in the whole movie. What I mean with unfinished is a missing significant details I didn't get to add in as I wanted. Tho it is still possible for the movie to be confisdered finished even without them. The scenes weren't finished again due to time constraints.
The first one is the chase scene with Biela. In the backgroud there were supposed to be scared cat villagers. And the second is the ending scene where there were supposed to be way more dogs in the background, napping, playing and just having a nice time.

Finishing thoughts

Alright that is all for the behind the scenes (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa). Now I just wanna discuss my as the title says finishing thoughts.
First of all my feelings on the finished product. It definetly is not perfect. I have many things that I'd do differently like for example I'd choose completely different plot for a 3 minutes long movie. This plot at least what was in my mind was too big for the time I was given. I also was very ambitious and took bigger bite then I should as it took over 6 months of my life including all my vacations and I'm exhausted. But at the end of the day I am proud of my commitment to it adn finishing it. I am happy I tried and made it to the end even tho it has issues. My family might view it as a waste of time but to me it is very valuable experience. And I'm so happy and excited to share my work with all of you. I really hope one day people will find it and see it and it will hopefully make them happy and like it :3.

Now what next??? Oh boi, I'm nowhere near done with my projects. I have sooo many ideas that I'm excited to eventually share. The closest and a project that I'm actively working on is my comic that is rn called Robin. I've been working on it for over 2 years already and I'm really excited to have it finished.
Next I wanna make few short animations with new characters that will be little venty regarding in healing from your mental health problems. And of course one of the main characters is a kittie. There's other short animated series I wanna work on.
Of course I also wanna make more entries into the Settling stars universe that Sirius is part of.
And so much more aaaaa.
